For the first time in all of Sonic history, you will be able to create custom characters in Sonic Forces. There appear to be loads of customization options and the feature is fine in my book.
Custom Characters in Sonic Forces
SEGA let us know that Sonic Forces’ third gameplay style has a customizable character. You’ll be able to completely customize how the character looks, and how it plays. Like to fight like Sonic? Well, you can make the character like Sonic. Same goes for Knuckles, Tails, and the rest of the gang. But it is yours.
Here’s what SEGA had to say about this new mode.
In this just announced gameplay style, players will be equipping their custom Hero Character with one of a variety of powerful unique gadgets called Wispons. Wispons are an evolution of the Color Powers from Sonic Colors and double as both offensive abilities and as a way to platform through levels quickly. Along with the Wispon, the Hero Character will have a grappling hook they can utilize to quickly traverse across zones. Players can also customize the Hero Character’s looks by choosing and swapping between hundreds of accessories and outfit options to change the character’s appearance as they play through the game.
There are several different classes of animals you can choose from, each with their own abilities.
- Hedgehog – Collects rings when getting damaged
- Bird – Flies high and has a double jump
- Dog – Restarts with five rings each time you die
- Cat – Keeps one ring even after being hit
- Wolf – Automatically draws in rings (like the magnet power-up)
- Rabbit – Has more invincibility frames after taking damage
- Bear – Blows away enemies with his homing attack
These characters will “be a key part of the story, appearing not only in cutscenes, but by being a crucial element in helping Sonic reclaim the world from Eggman’s domination.” This feels like such a change for the series, but I think it will be fantastic.
Here’s a gameplay video for you.
