Yesterday Activision and Bungie shared a lot of news about Destiny 2. They gave us information about game modes, new features, and more. As is the tradition now with the Switch, people were wondering if the game will come to the beloved Switch console. It looks like Destiny 2 will probably not come to Switch.
Destiny 2 and the Switch: “No Plans”
The Switch is getting loads of attention in the community, so we had to know if Destiny would come. To help us understand, IGN asked Mark Noseworthy, the project lead, this very question. I think we should note that Mr. Noseworthy has a Switch and that he loves it.
He stated that the port was “unrealistic” because of the heavy use of the online functionality. He had this to say:
I think it’s pretty unrealistic, given we’re an online-only game, right? The Switch, because it’s a portable – and I love my Switch, I’ve got Breath of the Wild here, I’ve got it with me. It’s incredible, I love the console, but in terms of where it’s at, I don’t want leave anyone with the possibility of, like, ‘it’s a thing we’ll consider, maybe next year.’ There’s no plans right now for Switch.
So that’s pretty sad. I think that a game like Destiny 2 could work on Switch. Unfortunately, Nintendo has yet to show how far they’ve come with their online functionality. We aren’t going to see what the paid service will be like until later. Anyway, I think there’s hope that some big AAA titles will come to the Switch eventually. Perhaps not Destiny 2.
What are your thoughts? Do you think that a game like this would work on Switch? Why or why not? Let us know!
